Job Description
The Systems Administrator will play a key role in a skilled technical team that is responsible for the successful implementation and ongoing development of web projects for clients.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and support production systems and networks for the customer platform:
  • To support existing customers and solve technical issues whenever they arise.
  • Administration of production Windows 2003 servers, UNIX (Linux & Solaris) servers, SAN appliances, networking devices and switches.
  • Administration of support services such as DNS, SMTP, RDBMS, Apache.
  • Adopt established processes for a consistent and high quality implementation.
  • Aptitude for automating tasks.
  • Out-of-hours on-call support may be required.
  • Responsibility might be extended to assist the development team when required.

Experience/ Soft Skills Required

  • A relevant BSc or MSc.
  • Demonstrates thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Can self-manage and is organised.
  • Communication skills -  ability to communicate with customers and third-parties.

Essential Technical Skills

  • Windows Server 2003 administration
  • Linux and/or Solaris administration experience
  • Scripting (Shell, Perl or Python)
  • Experience building and installing open source software
  • Server hardware installation and support experience
  • Experience with managing public-facing production servers

Desirable 

  • Web server administration (Apache, IIS)
  • Experience with scaling web farms
  • DNS management (bind preferred)
  • MTA/Postfix administration
  • Networking, TCP/IP, routers/switches, Cisco IOS
  • Subversion repository management
  • RDBMS administration (MS SQL & PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Experience with writing tools and scripts to automate tasks
  • Programming skills or background (Python, Perl, C, C++)
  • ISP background or similar environment
